Tampa's 2011 Suncoast Tarpon Roundup Finale Day Winners 

Tampa tarpon tournamentTampa Bay's 77th Annual Suncoast Tarpon Roundup Awards Creremony- Chalk up another sucessful and exciting year for Tampa tarpon anglers who fished this years Suncoast Tarpon Roundup! This summer's tarpon action proved to be red hot for STR anglers fishing Tampa's oldest & largest tarpon tournament. It has been banner year for tarpon fishing and good times in Tampa Bay! Although, the 2011 tarpon season has ofiically ended the good folks who participated in this years 10 week long tarpon tournament are already looking forward to the 2012 tarpon season! Tampa Bay's  Suncoast Tarpon Roundup 20011 Finale Day winner was David Rhea with three tarpon. Jeff Owens came in second with two tarpon and Mike Clark third with one tarpon.  Three other STR anglers, John McLay, Larry Rudisill, and Bert Waterman all released poons as well. Our top three finale day tarpon anglers were also the top three in the  tournament with Mike Clark releasing 22 tarpon. Mike's Grandson won the Junior Division overall and they won the Adult Child trophy with 28 fish between them; great job boys!

Week #10 Tampa's Suncoast Tarpon Roundup -Logan Clark, Kenny Balseca, and Gavin McLay qualified for Jr Finale Day, by releasing at least one tarpon during the ten weekends; and it was Kenny Balseca II who won.  After blowing two trailer tires coming home from Long Boat Key yesterday and not being able to get them fixed, David Rhea was able to get the team out in the bay and caught the winning fish estimated to be approximately 150lbs.

 Bryan Swan won week ten with three tarpon and Debbie Miller came in second releasing a tarpon.  Mike Clark reported three more tarpon and Aaron Crisp released  one.

Overall, Mike Clark released the most tarpon during STR tarpon tournament with 22, and Logan will take home the Jr overall trophy with six.  Mike and Logan Clark will also take home the Adult Child Trophy.  Mary Quinette won the women’s overall with 11 tarpon and James Roehm took home land lubbers with seven. Finale Day is next Saturday from 6AM until 3PM with everyone do at Fish Tales no later than  3:30 pm.

 Week #9 Tampa Suncoast Tarpon Round Up-Only one more weekend to go and it is only Fri day and Saturday until midnight.  Sunday will be Junior Finale Day with the get together at Fish Tales no later than 2:30PM if you are reporting a tarpon release.

 This week seven tarpon were caught and released.  Anthony Helenek won the week with two tarpon, James Kasper came in second with one tarpon and Ashley Epperson placed third with one tarpon .  Kenny Balseca won the Jr Division with one tarpon.  Additionally Mike Clark caught two and James Roehm caught one tarpon.

Over All here are the STR leaders:

Regular Division – Mike Clark - 18

Womens Division – Mary Quinette - 11

Land Lubber Division – James Roehm -  7

Jr Division – Logan Clark – 3

Week #8 Week Larry Rudisill caught and released eight, our on Saturday and four on Sunday.  He lost three others at the boat trying to get a DNA scrub. The rain throughout the week hampered getting bait and I am sure everyone was thinking nothing would be going on.  He caught bait on Thursday in the rain and then had a field day over the weekend with over 16 fish in the air between the two days from sunup to noon; Way to tuff it out Larry!

Week #7 An exciting week for anglers fishing Tampa Bay's Suncoast Tarpon  Roundup! Mike Clark caught 8 tarpon and David Elmore, James Roehm, and Mary Quinette caught two tarpon each.  David Rhea caught four poons on Monday and won the Ralph and Gene Gell 4th of July Trophy.  Logan Clark one of our Juniors also released one tarpon.

Jeff Owens released 11, Mike Clark released  6, Mary Quinette and James Roehm released 2
And Aaron Crisp, Anthony Helenek, Bert Waterman, David Krone, and John McLay all released one. The winners for week six are 1st Jeff Owens, 2nd John McLay, and 3rd David Krone Gavin McLay won the Junior Division week six with a fish.

Week #5 Gangbuster weekend down south.  David Rhea released nine fish.  He is our new regular division leader.  Jeff Owens released four and Capt Eddie Herrington released one from the long pier.  Jr Logan Clark won the week and is leading the Jr Division with two fish, and Ms Mary Quinette is leading the womens division with seven.  Our landlubber leader is Bert Waterman with three fish. David Rhea also won the Jim Mastry Fathers Day trophy!

Week # 4 results – Joshua Black won the week with one and Mike Clark was second with one fish.  Mary Quinette caught two but had won a previous week as did Bert Waterman.  Aaron Crisp also released one and David Elmore moved into third place for week three.

The Full “Moon in June” sponsored by Moon Under will be the 24 hr period this Wednesday and the Jim Mastry Fathers day trophy will be fished for Sunday.

Week #3 We have a new Suncoast Tarpon Roundup leader Ms Mary Quinette with four tarpon, and she is also the STR women's leader.  Ms Whitney
Harper came in second with one tarpon and Mr Mike Clark moved to third after releasing one fish.  Honerable mention to David Elmore and Doug Dawson who both released tarpon. Good job guys!

Week #2- A good week for Tampa Tarpon Angler's fishing the STR. Bert Waterman won the weekend with two fish from the Redington Long Pier. He is tied with James Roehm who is leading the tournament and the Landubber division.  Aaron Crisp released one from the beach, as did David Elmore and Colin Feinberg.  Logan Clark a Junior, released three down south. David Elmore won the Dave Crisp Memorial Day Trophy by releasing two fish, and Ashley Epperson, our first female angler to release a fish, won the Joy Cup, named after Joy Albee Paul, a long time St Pete Tarpon Angler.

Honerable mention, also goes out to Logan Clark who released several tarpon . Logan's fish  offically did not count because he caught them on Monday (Memorial Day was a specialty day- Regular division anglers only) . Looking for to an exciting week # 3 of  Tampa tarpon fishing  with the STR!

Week # 1- A slow start for this years 77th annual Suncoast Tarpon Roundup. Only one tarpon was reported and that was from James Roehm, fishing from the Redington long Pier.  James was the man to beat last year in the landlubber division and he may well be the man to beat this year in Tampa's 2011 Suncoast Tarpon Roundup!
